Task Group Taji-X

Aussies and Americans Training in wounded recovery

Task Group Taji X (TGT-X), comprised primarily from members of the 5th Battalion, has been in Iraq since the end of November 2019. During the deployment, members from the Tiger Battalion have been involved in numerous activities. This has seen members involved in mentoring their Iraqi counterparts at the School of Infantry and Non-Commissioned Officer Academy – Number 2, serving as the Quick Reaction Force for Camp TAJI, providing force protection to those conducting tasks with the Iraqis and occupying key roles within the Task Group Headquarters.

So far during this deployment, members of the Tiger Battalion shared together Christmas Day, New Years Day and Australia Day, where the Task Group came together for a classic Aussie BBQ, accompanied by sports. Members from 5 RAR performed strongly in these sports – situation no change. The day provided a good opportunity for the otherwise busy Task Group to come together in a social setting to enjoy each other’s company and banter.

In what has been a challenging yet rewarding deployment thus far, members from the Tiger Battalion have been performing to the very highest of standards whilst on the international stage, representing both the Battalion back home and Australia exceptionally well. With the tour rapidly coming to a close, there is no doubt that 5 RAR members will finish off their deployment strongly prior to returning to Australia.
