5RAR Sentry Post looking out into the 'Rubber' (Early days.)

5RAR sentry Post with a 50 calibre Browning Machine Gun looking out into the rubber plantation that became the 5RAR lines.
5RAR didn't take heavy machine guns to Vietnam as they weren't on the procurement list. The Battalion was also short on M60 machine guns and ANPRC 25 radio sets to name a couple of items.
Stealing wasn't off the cards either and the frustrated Americans dubbed 5RAR as "The Hydraulic Battalion" as they claimed that the battalion 'would lift anything!' On this occasion The heavy machguns were donated by the Yanks.
Where possible the Browning machine gun would be supported with an M60 machine gun mounted on its own bipod next to the 50.Cal.
