Luscombe Field
Soldiers of 5RAR are shaking out into 'sticks' ready to board once given the command.
Without the air traffic arriving and departing from luscombe Airfield with troops and logistics, the Task Force would have been isolated with the exception of Route 2, a road link from Nui Dat to Vung Tau which was regarded as hostile in the early days The mountain ranges of the Nui Dinh and the Nui Thi Vai's in the background were VC strongholds. Unfortunately the clearance of the mountains caused many casualties to the Australians.
The diggers are wearing or carrying American helmets. This was usually the case when a VC or NVA mortar attack was likely.
