LIEUTENANT COLONEL ASH ZIMMERLIE

LTCOL Ash Zimmerlie enlisted in 2004. His operational service includes Iraq, Afghanistan, Sinai, Timor Leste, humanitarian assistance in the South West Pacific, and domestic emergency response. His previous regimental
service includes 1 RAR, 2 RAR, 3 RAR, 8/9 RAR, and the School of Infantry. His key staff appointments have been
in the Land Warfare Centre, Headquarters Joint Task Force 635, Amphibious Task Group Headquarters, Army
Headquarters, and Headquarters Joint Operations Command.
LTCOL Zimmerlie is a graduate of the Australian Defence Force Academy, Royal Military College Duntroon, University of New South Wales, and United States Marine Corps School of Advanced Warfighting. He is a distinguished graduate of the United States Marine Corps Command
and Staff College. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and four master’s degrees. He assumed command of the 5th/7th Battalion in December 2025.
