Lockheed C-130 Hercules Transport Aircraft
A C130 Aircraft lifting off from the freshly sealed runway at Luscombe Airfield. These aircraft along with the C123's, Chinooks and others were the supply life line for the Diggers at the 1st Australian Task Force.
The airstrip was built by 1 Field Squadron, Royal Australian Engineers and was officially opened on 5th December 1966. This allowed fixed wing aircraft to supply the Task Force with greater loads then the rotary wing could handle.
A Cessna light observation aircraft from the USAF is in the foreground being unloaded.
