Padre, Father Tom Shanahan at Mass

In God We Trust

Padre Tom Shanahan, Catholic padre of the 5th Battalion RAR (2nd Tour) conducting mass in the field during the Battalion's 2nd tour.
To the padres, the spiritual well-being of the soldiers was of the utmost importance regardless of their religious denomination.
The padres knew only too well the effects from the impact of war could have on the soldier's mental and physical well-being.
To those who believed in God, church services wherever they were held, offered great comfort.
To the non-believers, having a two-way bet didn't hurt their chances of survival either.
