Australian Infantry Weapons Vietnam War

The Vietnam War saw a diverse range of weaponry used by the United States, its allies including Australia, and the communist forces of the Viet Cong (VC) and North Vietnamese Army (NVA), each tailored to their respective combat strategies.
The U.S. military relied on advanced firearms and heavy weaponry. Australian forces used a mix of U.S. and Commonwealth weapons and the VC and NVA relied on Soviet and Chinese-supplied weapons.
Each side adapted its arsenal to the unique challenges of jungle warfare, with the U.S. favoring firepower and technology.
The Australian troops, of the 1st Australian Taskforce (1ATF), operated in Phước Tuy Province, conducting cordon-and-search operations and long-range patrols to disrupt Viet Cong movements. They emphasized stealth, tracking, and ambush tactics, adapting lessons from previous jungle conflicts like Malaya and Borneo.
Their approach differed from the U.S. strategy, which relied more on large-scale search-and-destroy missions. Instead, Australians focused on winning local support, integrating with South Vietnamese forces, and using small, well-trained units to counter guerrilla tactics.
Presented below are the more common weapons used by the Aussies during the Vietnam War.
