Pte Terry Tomassi filling water bottles in an almost dry creek bed

Water Point 1st Tour

Terry Tommasi of C Company (facing camera) can be seen refilling his water bottles from an almost dry creek bed during his platoon's TAOR (Tactical Area of Responsibility) patrol.
The streams and rivers of Vietnam carried many water-borne diseases so it was important to de-contaminate your drinking water by adding a chlorine tablet to each bottle, giving the bottle a good shake, then let it stand for 20 minutes before adding a "de-tasting tablet" (my word) to remove the chlorine taste from the water.
Often, there was a lack of de-tasting tablets  so the 5RAR soldier would be forced to drink the water chlorinated ... it was like drinking from a public swimming pool.
