161 Field Battery RNZA

161 Battery arrived in Vietnam in 1965 and were based with the American 173rd Airborne Brigade at Bien Hoa where the 1st Battalion RAR made up the 3rd Battalion of the three battalion brigade.
May 1966 saw the unit move to Nui Dat and join the Australian 103 and 105 batteries.  These three batteries along with guns from the US 2/35th Artillery Battalion Supported D Company RAR at the Battle of Long Tan where the batteries fired over 3,500 rounds. The battery left Vietnam in May 1971 after providing virtually continuous fire support to 1 ATF components and other friendly forces for six years.
